BORRANDO LA FRONTERA: ERASING THE BORDER

The surreal act of erasing a border is documented in the short, Borrando la Frontera. A woman in stilettos and a black cocktail dress scales a 30 ft ladder on the sandy beach of Tijuana, bringing the sky back between Mexico and the US, as she paints the dividing fence blue. The film depicts the peace offering of creating the illusion of a “hole in the wall.” The protagonist becomes more visible as the wall starts to disappear into the blue sky. Her attire, the little black dress reflects the notion of prosperity in the US, moreover the funerary symbol of luto, the Mexican tradition of wearing black for a year after a death. Mourning those who have died in attempts of crossing this border to prosper.

On This Day (1/19/1847): In 1847 the Taos Revolt Began.

On This Day (1/19/1847): In 1847 the Taos Revolt began. This was an effort by Pueblo and Mexican peoples against the United States’ occupation of present-day northern New Mexico. Over the course of the following months, several campaigns took place, during which the United States military killed over 100 Pueblo people, wounded over 250, and captured more than 400. The following year the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed between Mexico and the United States, in which present-day New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado were given to the United States, all without any consent or acknowledgement of the indigenous populations.

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo is the peace treaty signed in 1848 in Guadalupe Hidalgo between the U.S. and Mexico that ended the Mexican–American War (1846–48). The treaty called for the United States to pay $15 million to Mexico and pay off the claims of American citizens against Mexico up to $3.25 million. It gave the United States the Rio Grande boundary for Texas, and gave the U.S. ownership of California, and a large area comprising New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and parts of Wyoming and Colorado. Mexicans in those annexed areas had the choice of relocating to Mexico or receiving American citizenship with FULL CIVIL RIGHTS; over 90% remained. .. but the land rights and "full civil rights" part was not honored

Tina Knowles Killin The Game

I believe the moment I realized Miss Tina is not your average 60 year old, was when rumors began spreading that she was in a relationship with actor Richard Lawson. The proof was in this photo

Top off that appearance with the photos from Ms. Tina’s 60th birthday party nine days ago and I was convinced this woman is purchasing Big Gulps from the fountain of youth on a daily basis. That hour-glass figure in that black, gold, and tan dress was looking better than her own daughters,’ and that’s no easy task when we’re talking about Beyonce and Solange. I say all this to say that when I came across the photo above on Beyonce’s Tumblr this morning, I decided I was no longer going to keep my appreciation of this woman a secret because she is absolutely killing the game right now. I know black don’t crack, but this woman is out here looking like the

What do you say? Has 60 every looked this good (Besides Tina Turner — must be something about the name!)?

female Benjamin Button, and to that all I can say is: Werk Mama Tina!
of the pair, who we now know is a real couple, at the Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation’s Angel Ball, but at the time I said to hell with her new boo, can we talk about how amazing this woman looks? I’m talking hair laid, body tight, and her face naturally on point. Consequently I deduced three things that day: The Beyincés are working with a crazy set of genes — let’s be real, even if she has had work done, most people’s plastic surgery doesn’t turn out this natural; Richard Lawson is no fool; Matthew Knowles, however, is.

Pilatus...PC-6...France

Pilatus PC-6 s/n 342 F-BIII d'Air Pyrénées

Pilatus PC-6/B1.H2 s/n 617 Chalon Champforgueil Juillet 1987

Rape In The Fields: If America's fields could speak, what stories would they tell?

This is a powerful video about a major issue facing female field workers in the U.S.. Please watch.

If America's fields could speak, what stories would they tell?
That's the question that poet Monica Mendoza asks in the Off/Page Project's inaugural video, "Whispers from the Field." Speaking from the perspective of the field, Mendoza talks about the high price migrant women pay to put food on their families' tables. The poem was inspired by the Rape in the Fields investigation -- by The Center for Investigative Reporting, the Investigative Reporting Program at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, FRONTLINE and Univision -- that found that hundreds of female agricultural workers have complained to the federal government about being raped, assaulted and harassed on the job, while law enforcement has done almost nothing to prosecute potential crimes. Learn more about the investigation at cironline.org/rapeinthefields.
