Everyday a heartbreaking scene takes place in our communities over and over again. Children come home to empty houses. Wive's come home to wait for a husband that may never return. Everyday families are being torn apart by an immigration policy that has been broken for decades. Every year thousands of children that are American citizens become orphans because their parents have been taken, deported by El Hielo (I.C.E.). This is an injustice that needs to stop NOW! How many more families need to be torn apart, how many more children need to be traumatized before something is done?
What are WE going to do about it? Do we continue to vote for Democrats and Republicans that just use our communities as pawns for their own political gain? How many more hunger strikes and marches before we are taken seriously? One little girl had enough of the political BS and took her father's fate in her own hands. She traveled all the way to the Vatican and personally asked the Pope to raise the issue of immigration reform during his scheduled meeting with President Obama, and to push for the release of her father Mario. The President recently announced a review of deportation practices in hopes of finding a more humane way. There is nothing more humane than keeping families together Mr. President. Families should not have borders.
Below is the heart wrenching moment when she is reunited with the father once again. This video made many of us at OVR tear up.
